Maribel Munguia Dugas, LCSW, CMHIMP
Hi, I'm Maribel, Latinx therapist, health coach, and founder of Zen and Health!
The urban dictionary defines "Zen" as a total state of focus that incorporates a total togetherness of body and mind. It is a way of being and involves dropping illusion and seeing things without the distortion of our own thoughts. We can't always control what is happening, but we can control how we perceive and react to it.
I taught self-defense and fitness for almost twenty years, and I’m very passionate about improving mental and physical health simultaneously. As a licensed clinician since 2008, I have learned from many different experiences over the years. I provided services in a variety of mental health settings, including a hospital, schools, and in community based mental health agencies.
Throughout my career, I have helped others improve their coping strategies, relationships, and lifestyle choices, and I’ve assisted them in overcoming challenges and pushing through dire circumstances. For me, it is through the combination of positive mental and physical health developments where I see my clients improve most.
In early 2020, I became certified as a Mental Health Integrative Medicine Practitioner in order to further support my clients' health improvements. I believe in having balance in our lives, and that means looking at our psychological, physical, social, and spiritual health. I am also very passionate about helping underserved populations, and I provide various types of services to these populations through my Community Health Project.
I specialize in helping clients who are motivated to make changes in order to improve their lives.

My goal is to help people imagine the future they want and develop a series of realistic steps to help them get there. I focus on finding acceptance to problems rather than focusing on the problems themselves, in order to move forward to solutions. I can help you identify the skills you need to make changes in your life and reach your goals.
I received my Master's Degree in Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2018. My experience includes twenty-one years working with children and adolescents with special needs, and I have also worked with underserved populations including foster youth, homeless, and victims of trauma.
Over the years, I have completed trainings in Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault as well as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I strive to treat a variety of mental health and personality disorders, improve relationship issues, and empower victims of crime.
