Teen Counseling

Being a teenager/young adult comes with its own set of struggles. My experience also includes supervising MSW Interns (Therapists in Training) while they study to be therapists for the past 15 years.

Therapists employed at Zen and Health have experience and receive targeted supervision to continue to grow while working with teens and young adults. There are a lot of “firsts,” and we are also dealing with hormonal changes, trying to figure out who we are in the world, and seeing how we fit in. Social/romantic relationships can also be challenging at this juncture.

Teens/young adults also may not have the experience and/or emotional regulation to deal with everything that might be happening. Life can be very overwhelming at this age, but it is also the perfect age to learn effective coping strategies.

I worked for a large school district for almost 20 years providing support and mental health services to teenagers/young adults.

I feel this experience gives me a unique advantage in connecting with youth during their most vulnerable moments. Not to mention, I really enjoy seeing their growth, insight, and development when they start to tap into their strengths.

In our work with teens/young adults, we make sure that they feel accepted and valued. We make sure that they learn to identify their strengths and learn how to deal with some of the difficulties that life can throw in their direction.

We also encourage and support effective communication with their support network, which can include their parents, guardians, etc.

When teens and young adults learn that they matter and they start to feel successful in their coping and in their relationships, they can take on their school, friendships, and jobs with much more joy and intentionality.
